IMMUNIZATIONS

In accordance with New York State Public Health Law, UB requires that all students (undergraduate, graduate, professional) born on or after January 1, 1957 provide proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. The state also requires that all students receive information about meningococcal disease and have made an informed decision about whether or not to receive immunization against meningococcal disease. UB students will not be allowed to register for classes until they have fulfilled these requirements.

Learn more about Immunization and Meningitis Requirements

I have completed the required Immunizations
I know what is required and will have them completed before arriving on campus

Please read all information regarding Immunizations online

This is MANDATORY for all students. A hold will not be released from your account until you have submitted the required documentation. Class registration is not allowed until this hold is released. Submission can happen during orientation since many departments do not allow registration until or after department orientation.

All questions about Immunization requirements should be sent to Student Health Services:

PREPARE FOR YOUR ARRIVAL TO THE US

What to Expect when you arrive

UB provides some tips to make your arrival to Buffalo as smooth as possible

I have booked my ticket to Buffalo, NY

The local airport is Buffalo-Niagara International Airport (BUF). You will most likely land in the US in either New York City, Chicago or another major city. Make sure your last stop is Buffalo.

The airport is about 20 minutes from both North and South campus and can be easily accessed by Taxi or Public Transportation

Uber and Lyft are also available.

I know how to get to campus or my accommodation from the airport

UB does not provide airport pick-ups.

Student orgianizations may organize this on their own.

While attending the University at Buffalo, you should take advantage of everything Buffalo, NY has to offer! Explore different neighborhoods, restaurants and get to know the city that you can now call home.

OTHER PRE-ARRIVAL REMINDERS

Other Reminders:

Documents to Bring

Keep your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, SEVIS fee receipt, admission letter, original academic records and any other important documents with you in your carry-on bags. Do not put important documents in your checked bags. We also encourage you to bring photographs, recipes for your favorite foods, an English/home language dictionary, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses for your family and friends, and cultural items to share with other students. Other suggested items would be an international driver’s license, and marriage and birth certificates if you are coming with dependents. Make copies of all your important documents and keep them with you, in a different place than your original documents.

Weather

Buffalo has a continental-type climate, which is common in the Great Lakes Region. Buffalo has the sunniest and driest summers of any major city in the Northeast and days are marked by plentiful sunshine and moderate humidity. The summer (June – August) is warm with temperatures between 13-27°C or 55-80°F. Buffalo has snowy winters, but is rarely the snowiest city across New York State or the Northeast. During the winter (November – March), it can be very cold, with average temperatures between -7- 7°C or 20-45°F.

Clothing

When you arrive it will be very warm in Buffalo, but be sure to pack some clothes for cold weather if you have them. There are shops near campus where you will be able to buy boots, coats, sweaters or whatever else you may need once you arrive in Buffalo.

Medical Considerations

Be sure to bring prescriptions and medical or dental records. Put these documents in your carry-on bag. The student health center on campus is open to all students.
